Patrick completed his Bachelor of Optometry in 2011 from the University of Melbourne. After graduating, he worked as a primary care optometrist in private practice, corporate optometry, mobile aged care optometry, and volunteer outreach work. In 2021, he moved into the position of clinical research optometrist in the Downie Laboratory: Anterior Eye, Clinical Trials and Research Translation Unit under the leadership of A/Prof Laura Downie, where he has contributed to ophthalmic clinical trials investigating the treatment of dry eye disease. He has also contributed to a Cochrane systematic review investigating the effect of blue light filtering spectacle lenses on visual performance, sleep, and macular health.

Patrick also holds a position as a preclinical demonstrator in the Doctor of Optometry teaching, at first and second year levels, at the University of Melbourne. He enjoys contributing to the education and practice of the next generation of optometrists.
