Dr Mengliang Wu completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Master of Philosophy in Ophthalmology and Optometry, in China. He completed his PhD under the supervision of Dr Holly Chinnery and A/Prof Laura Downie at the University of Melbourne in 2022, focussing on understanding the neuroimmune interactions in the cornea and the therapeutic potential of Decorin in corneal nerve regeneration. Dr Wu was also co-supervised by A/Prof Lisa Hill at the University of Birmingham.
Currently, Dr Wu is working as a jointly appointed Postdoctoral Research Fellow in A/Prof Laura Downie’s laboratory, Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences and Prof Scott Mueller’s laboratory, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, at the University of Melbourne. His research focuses on understanding the immune landscape of human ocular surface. By contributing to image analysis and statistical analysis, he is also involved in multiple clinical and pre-clinical studies. His research interests include corneal immunology and neuroscience, diabetic corneal neuropathy and ocular image analysis.
